Thumbnails

A package is the title and thumbnail bundle for a video. The thumbnail is the image a viewer sees in their feed, paired with the title. You work on it from the video’s Package stage.

Every package card has a thumbnail slot. An empty slot is waiting for one of three things: a generated image, an upload, or one you build yourself.

Hover an empty thumbnail card and you’ll see three actions:

  • Generate (bolt icon): auto-generates a thumbnail using AI. It stays disabled until the concept has at least one of a logline, problem, or payoff filled in, so give it something to work from first.
  • Upload thumbnail (cloud icon): upload your own JPEG or PNG.
  • Create thumbnail (click icon): opens the compositor, a visual editor for building a custom thumbnail from scratch.
  1. Make sure the concept has at least a logline, problem, or payoff.
  2. Hover the card and click Generate.
  3. A “Creating thumbnail…” spinner shows while the job runs in the background.
  4. The thumbnail appears on the card when it finishes.

Click Create thumbnail to open the compositor. Build the image layer by layer, then save it back to the card.

Hover a card that already has a thumbnail and you’ll see:

  • Upload thumbnail: replace it with a new JPEG or PNG.
  • Edit thumbnail (pencil icon): reopen the compositor to adjust it.
  • Trash icon: remove the thumbnail and return the card to its empty state.

Thumbnails are not scored on their own. Hitfactor evaluates the package (title and thumbnail together) against the target avatar and shows a Click, Neutral, or Skip verdict, usually with a short explanation.

The verdict reflects how well the package speaks to your avatar, your audience persona.

  • Hitfactor judges the pair, so a strong thumbnail with a mismatched title can still receive a Skip verdict, and the reverse.
  • If you change the thumbnail or title, Hitfactor automatically queues updated scoring.
  • While updated scoring runs, the package shows a loading state rather than an outdated verdict.
