Avatars
What is an avatar?
Section titled “What is an avatar?”An avatar is an AI-generated profile of your ideal viewer. Hitfactor builds it automatically from your channel, then uses it to judge whether your content will resonate with that viewer.
If you want the strategy behind this (why a concrete viewer beats a vague demographic), see Understanding Your Audience in the Learn section. This page is about creating and using avatars in the app.
Where your avatar comes from
Section titled “Where your avatar comes from”You don’t fill out a form to build an avatar. When you connect your channel, Hitfactor reads your existing videos and their comments and works out who your audience actually is, then generates the avatar for you. During onboarding you’ll see this happen live (“Reading through your videos… Finding your audience…”), and the finished avatar appears on your Audience page.
Most channels have a single avatar, discovered from the channel as a whole. You don’t create or cap avatars yourself; Hitfactor manages them.
What the avatar captures
Section titled “What the avatar captures”Each avatar is a behavioral profile of your ideal viewer, centered on what they actually click and skip:
- Name and a persona describing who they are in a sentence or two.
- What they click on — the topics, title styles, and thumbnail cues that pull this viewer in.
- What they skip — the topics and framings they scroll straight past.
- What’s irrelevant to them — whole subjects they simply don’t care about.
You view all of this on the Audience page. The avatar is the reference every score in the app is measured against.
How avatars are used
Section titled “How avatars are used”When you build a package (a title and thumbnail) for a video, Hitfactor scores it against your avatar and shows whether that viewer would Click, stay Neutral, or Skip, usually with a short explanation. You see that verdict on the package card rather than a raw score.
This catches content that is well-crafted but off-target. A title can be clear, curiosity-driven, and benefit-focused and still receive a Skip verdict if it doesn’t connect with what your avatar actually cares about. Changing the title or thumbnail automatically queues updated scoring.
Some channels have more than one avatar (for example, distinct audience segments). When that’s the case, you’ll see how a package reads for each, which is useful when you’re planning your content mix.
